It's Knollwood Neighbors 2.0!

Times change, and Knollwood Neighbors recognizes the need to change with the times. We recently took steps to restructure our board and activities to reflect a tighter focus on communication and advocating for our community because these activities have been shown to be (a) important to our residents and (b) achievable with the very limited volunteer pool and resources we have available. We also decided to stop charging membership dues in order to be more inclusive.

This week we sent a letter to all the households in Knollwood announcing the changes, and asking them to visit our website to register for our email list. Many have already done so, and we hope many more will.

We're still here for YOU, our neighbors, and we'll stay in touch by email, website, and Facebook. We are not planning to have the annual picnic this summer due to lack of volunteers - but if anyone steps forward to organize it, or wants to start some other community event, we're here to consult and advise!

As always, we'll be keeping an eye on what's happening in and around Knollwood and will keep you in the loop. If you haven't signed up for our e-newsletter, do it now!

Here's the text of the letter we sent, in case you didn't see it.

May 2014

Dear Neighbor,

Whether you are aware of it or not, Knollwood Neighbors is a part of your life here in Knollwood. For 14 years we’ve been serving our community by communicating, organizing activities, welcoming new neighbors, helping neighbors in need, and much more.

A lot has changed in our community and our world in 14 years. Increasingly, “community” is defined less by our surroundings and more by who we associate with at work, at worship, and at play. That change has had an impact on KN’s effectiveness in serving and engaging the residents of Knollwood.

Therefore, we’re writing to you to announce a change in Knollwood Neighbors, one that will allow us to use our limited resources more effectively to benefit more of our residents. The organization is moving forward with a streamlined board and a new focus on two-way communication and advocacy.

To be more inclusive of all residents of Knollwood, we will no longer charge membership dues. If you live in Knollwood, you can be a member! All you need to do is register via our website ( When you register, you’ll automatically be signed up to receive our valuable e-alerts. (Your information is secure; we will never share your email address with anyone.)

We have also redesigned our website to make more resources readily available to residents and prospective residents alike. Take a look – suggestions are welcome!

If you are not an email/Internet user but would like to stay in touch, please contact us by mail (Knollwood Neighbors, 906 W. Muir Ave., Lake Bluff, IL 60044) or leave a phone message at 847-701-5665 to give us your name, address, and phone number.

Our mission has not changed – only some of the ways we carry it out. Knollwood Neighbors will still be a nonprofit charitable organization, and tax-deductible donations are welcome to cover the costs of our activities and communications. Donations may be made by credit card via our website, or by mailing us a check.

Thank you for your support over the years. We look forward to staying in touch with you. Please go to now and register so you’ll receive important community news and tips. We’re also on Facebook (; publicly accessible even in you’re not a Facebook user), so be sure to connect with us there; you’ll get news the fastest there!
